Tomomi Kumai
Tomomi Kumai is a Senior Consultant with Aperian who brings over two decades of experience in strength-based coaching, Global Leadership and Intercultural Management, East-West Organizational Behavior Comparisons, and Unconscious Bias, across the USA, Japan, Korea, and China. As an intercultural trainer, Ms. Kumai is committed to helping individuals and teams unlock their potential by fostering self-awareness and alignment with core values—key foundations for meaningful growth in today’s globalized world.
Prior to joining Aperian, Ms. Kumai worked as an SIIC Fellow at the Intercultural Communication Institute, acquiring knowledge on professional development and facilitating intercultural understanding and global leadership. Ms. Kumai also worked in Universities in Japan and Korea providing cultural, linguistic, and emotional support to international students, assisting them with their transition into settling in a different country.
Ms. Kumai boasts strong language proficiency, native fluency in Japanese, and near-native fluency in English and Korean. She currently resides in the US.
Ms. Kumai holds a doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from the esteemed University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Before her doctoral studies, she completed a Master’s degree in Linguistics. She holds an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential from the International Coaching Federation (ICF), demonstrating her expertise in coaching. Additionally, she has completed certifications in Intercultural Foundations from the Intercultural Communication Institute.
